The Moon & I

Sometimes I don’t sleep and I have worked out that this is a pattern that coincides with the cycles of the moon. Have you ever noticed that the moon has an effect on you? This might relate to your mood or be more noticeable in relation to your sleep, like me, particularly around the time of the full moon. Let’s get clear I’m no moon expert. I am however aware of what a powerful effect she can have – after all the pull of the moon creates and substantiates the rise and fall of the tides. Whether you recognise any signs yourself or not, surely logic dictates that as the major part of you is made up of water that the moon also exerts a pull on us.

According to H.H. Mitchell in the Journal of Biological Chemistry (158) the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones contain 31%.

It is well known amongst public sector employees, notably A&E and police departments, when the moon is at its strongest…

By the same merit I believe we are also affected by the movements of other heavenly bodies in the sky exerting their own gravitational pull on us as they move through their own orbits.

According to astrologers the full moon is currently in the sign of Libra.  And as such it is especially good for Aries, Geminis, Leos, Librans, Sagittarians and Aquarians, but it’s more challenging for everyone else. With each full moon there is always a particular energetic focus and this cycle the energy is focused on relationships and partnerships. Have you noticed any challenges in this area of your life?

As always the Holy Grail is to find our own balance. When we are dealing with relationships this is often all about balancing the needs of others with our own needs.

Whatever an astrologer or monologist (yes I did just make that up) has to say about any particular moon or cycle it’s important to remember that you are unique. So honour your own natural rhythms and cycles in relation to the world around you. The more we practice self-awareness the greater our understanding of ourselves and our place in the universe.

As we progress along our own spiritual path we naturally can become more sensitive, in general, and to different energies that have always been in operation yet maybe we just weren’t aware of them before. So next time you have trouble sleeping or you are feeling out of sorts you might want to see what the moon is up to.
